School Vision Statement

All members of the school community will be inspired to learn through rich experiences, progress through achievement and become the very best they can be. We will make healthy, safe and positive choices; solve problems, face challenges and have respect for ourselves, others and our environment.
Curriculum

At Skilts we pay a great deal of attention toward filling the gaps in children's learning by teaching basic skills of literacy and numeracy well. The school day adheres to a routine of literacy lessons (taught in ability groups), numeracy lessons and themed lessons in the afternoon which takes into consideration all other statutory subject areas of the National Curriculum. The children may not recognise they are studying geography or history but will be covering the required curriculum through a variety of themes which include Ourselves, Romans, World War 2, Famous Inventors, Animals to name a few.

All staff are committed to improving children's key skills for life through the curriculum and we assess progress not just in academic ability but in areas which relate to social, emotional and behaviour as well. We challenge children to improve these skills by being "the best they can be" and embracing the school motto chosen by the children which is "A Place to Learn and Grow".
